Sailing the Drake Passage

We are now making our way across the Drake Passage, the roughest toughest passage in the world. Yesterday we were rocking and rolling a bit, but the waves have calmed down this afternoon. We are steaming full speed ahead in effort to out run a storm ahead of us in the passage. We are expecting 25-30 foot waves! The Drake Passage isn't all rough waves and bad weather; we saw a pod of Humpback whales from the Monkey Island (the top deck of the ship) as we crossed the edge of the continental shelf! We expect to make it to our first science sampling site on Friday morning. Stay tuned for science pictures and blogs!
